Settling in

So i have been here for over a week now. I’m still finding my way around and getting to know all of the teachers and students names. This afternoon, on my day off, i have been for a little stroll down the lane where i walked past many fences, a few houses and the local pub (much to Dad’s anticipation).

My timetable consists of at least five working days with my down time occurring in my breaks. Most of you wonder what it is i am actually doing so ill give you a quick overview. Monday is my busiest day consisting of wake up at 7.20 am on the girls landing. i also work with reception class twice a week where i am now helping out with their morning reading. last week i dressed up very fancy with the little girls as a vampire? not too sure as i was given the costume. Reception class is the equivalent to prep back at home. I also walk around the school at break times on duty in the freezing cold. this term i am involved in a lot of games classes as Netball is the sport for Lent term. Also learning to Umpire as i go along so i join the girl as games and help out with the umpiring. I have even scored my own whistle! Mondays also consist of watching the after school kids until they are picked up and also being present at prep, which is where some kids stay and do homework before supper. Night times consist of getting the junior and senior girls to have their showers and having them ready for quiet reading time then lights out. Late duty occurs on a Wednesday night for me, so I'm up on the landing telling the girls to stop talking as i have already put their lights out.

I have Tuesday nights off and also Wednesday during the day off until my night duties begin, as well as a few half hours to hours here and there during my days. Saturdays are pretty busy still as the kids have morning enrichment until 12 pm where then usually Netball is on like last Saturday. For enrichment I joined in on the Exmoor challenge group where we were reading maps. So i felt incredibly useless as i am hopeless at reading maps and i struggled to help the year seven boys. We then left AH at 12.30 to return by 5 pm after travelling to bath to play 2 games of Netball, where i started my umpiring career!

Sundays are a bit more peaceful depending if you are rostered on or not. Last Sunday i went with the boarders to @ Bristol which is a science museum in Bristol. It was interesting and i also learnt about different stars that you see at night, but i am also hopeless at picking out starts. We returned back to school in time for supper then letter writing.

Overall i have had a great first week. The snow has disappeared now and sadly i didn't even get any photos! but now also the rain has started to emerge, except for this afternoon as i have seen the sun for the first time! but i shall not hold my breath abut the disappearance of the rain, as i am sure it will re-emerge just to taunt me. This weekend is paint balling and i shall be attending! The other Gaps are also going and are already picking out the children they wish to hit with all of their paint!

Arrival

So yes i have arrived after 33 hours travelling time. With four stops and four aeroplanes to catch, luckily the airports were relatively quiet for me. Of course the plane food was not the greatest and neither were the ‘comfortable seats with plenty of leg space’. I arrived in London 9:00 am Monday morning to be picked up and travelled back to school. Snow everywhere along the roads from London to School, which was a very pretty sight. We drove past Stonehenge on the way which was very busy with tourists and covered in snow as well.

i am now into my second full day. My sleeping patterns are all over the place, waking up at two in the morning then going to bed at 10 pm last night and now four thirty this morning, which means it is slightly improving. But i was told it will take at least 10 days for my sleeping patterns to become normal again and then i will be able to sleep through the night! The snow is still falling at the moment and it is absolutely freezing  but the hot chocolate goes down a treat.

I will soon post some photos for you all, once i am actually able to go outside with a camera and also let you know exactly what I'm doing, as i now know what it all is!  I hope everyone at home is enjoying the warmer weather and that you all have a good Australia day, as i will be having mine with snow.

Last Day

Well today is my last day in the little state of Tassie. I have engrossed myself in packing my years worth of clothes into a 23kg bag. Safe to say it is officially impossible. With the temperature set to rise to 2 degrees in London on Monday i am ready for the snow showers and the harsh reality that i will be on the other side of the world for 12 months!

I have said my goodbyes and thank you to those of you that farewelled me last night and for the words of travel advice, greatly appreciated.

Well goodbye to you all and ill hopefully be seeing some of you overseas! so let me know when you are all over there.
